A comprehensive and dynamic approach to developing students' physical, mental, and emotional well-being
The Health and Physical Education (HAPE) program at BannockburnP-12 College offers a comprehensive and dynamic approach to developing students’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, our HAPE program provides students with opportunities to explore the essential concepts of health, fitness, and physical activity. We embrace a strengths-based approach, recognising each student’s unique abilities and encouraging them to build on their strengths while working on areas for improvement.
Our curriculum is designed to foster lifelong participation in physical activity and to promote healthy, active lifestyles. Through a combination of practical and theoretical learning, students engage in a variety of activities that enhance their physical fitness, teamwork, and personal well-being. Elective options at Year 9/10 further allow students to specialise in areas such as sport coaching, fitness training, and health promotion, helping them to develop valuable skills and knowledge for future career pathways.
The program offers pathways into VET Sport and Recreation, where students can gain hands-on experience and industry-specific certifications. Additionally, for those with an interest in deeper academic study, our curriculum prepares students for success in VCE Health Human Development and Physical Education. In these senior years, students deepen their understanding of human movement, health policies, and the societal impacts of health behaviours.
Through a combination of classroom learning, physical activity, and real-world applications, our HAPE program not only equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for further education and employment, but also nurtures the development of responsible, active citizens who are empowered to make positive health choices throughout their lives.
