Food Tech, Digital Technology and Materials Technology
At Bannockburn, our Technology Department covers Food Tech, Digital Technology and Materials Technology. With our cutting-edge kitchens, state of the art workshop and abundance technology equipment, we are able to offer a diverse range of Technology classes, catering to the interests and learning needs of a wide array of students.
In food Tech, we offer basic introductory classes, learning the core elements of food safety and preparation from years 7 and 8, before expanding into more tailored experienced for our year 9 and 10’s. At these higher year levels, students love to choose our “catering” class, which allows them the opportunity to prepare meals for their favourite staff members! We also offer VCE level food education, in the form of our VET Cookery classes, which run on a Wednesday afternoon. Completion of this program results in students achieving a Certificate II in Cookery and a Certificate II in Hospitality.
In Digital Technology, early years students learn the basics of block coding, internet protocols and functionality, basic software use, as well as online safety. At a year 9/10 level, they are offered the choice of Games Development and Website Development, as well as our cross curricular science/technology STEM class, STEMgineering, which aims to bridge the connection between applied physics and systems engineering. These classes give students the opportunity to learn coding, 2D artwork, 3D modelling and team building as they work to create their own video games, websites and physics-based projects, such as wind powered cars and circuits.
In Design Technology we cover a range of materials, including wood, textiles, plastics and metal. We explore these materials for a term each in years 7 and 8. Once they reach years 9 and 10, they are given more freedom of choice in their projects, utilizing multiple material forms to create designs of their choosing. This builds to our VCE Product Design and Technology offering, which further allows students to let their creativity flourish, as they design and create a major project of their choosing throughout the year, accompanied by a folio of evidence, research and planning.
